Returning to the blog.................

Greetings to readers of the blog . If you have read my previous posts you know that I have been on hiatus for some time now not entirely of my own choosing. I still have a ways to go before I will be back pounding the keyboard on as regular a basis as in the past but a few things have come to mind that I wanted too share.

First tomorrow is Memorial Day and I hope that you will attend any events that your community has planned to honor those that have given their lives in service to our country. Further is you know someone who is currently on active duty or if you are out on the street and you see someone in military uniform, stop and offer to shake their hand and thank them for their service. We owe them a great deal for the sacrifices that they make to protect our country and our way of life. Please keep them in your prayers and ask God to watch over them.

Speaking of our way of life. As I write this I am listening to Alan Jackson's CD “Drive” of which the opening track is of the same name. It talks about the feelings of a young boy as his daddy teaches him to drive various vehicles and it invokes many memories of my childhood. I remember my Dad sitting me on his lap and letting me “drive the car” on a number of occasions. Sometimes in empty parking lots and other times on little used roads.

I'm sure such actions would be frowned upon today possibly even drawing a traffic citation or stern warning from a police offices observing said event. My Dad always took care to insure that all such schenangians were carried out in a safe manner he being concerned with my well being more so than I.

It is a shame that in our politically correct and safety conscious world that we are losing many of these connections with our fathers. It is my hope that some of the signs that I'm seeing indicate that we are again learning the importance of fathers in the family and in time we will develop new traditions that children will remember fondly as they reach adulthood and in turn pass on to their children. These things are some of the common bonds that make us Americans. Being “American” is a learned culture and I pray that God will continue to bless this land as he has in the past allowing our heirs will carry on those traditions.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day holiday!
